I started doing monthly collages around five years ago.
I used to be a designer for a magazine company in Japan,
and I am a big fan of reading magazines all the time.
One day I was going to get rid of the old piles of magazines
(to make more space for new magazines!)
but I happened to think "why don't I use these pretty colors and shapes
in these pages for something..."
I am cutting and chopping up magazines and papers
to make collages all the time!
My friend was worried that I was making a threatning letter
to kidnap a kid by cutting out letters.
Nope, I didn't!
日本では住宅雑誌のデザイナーとして毎日働いていましたが
私自身が写真やイラストレーションやレイアウトのきれいな雑誌を見るのが、大好きなのです。
というわけでどんどん傍らに積まれていく雑誌たち…
それらはある日突然まとめられてお払い箱へ、という運命だったのですが
「このうっとり眺めた色や形をどこかにとっておきたい…」
とふと思ってはさみを持ったのがコラージュをはじめたきっかけ。
「アルファベットを切り抜いて、怪文書でも送るの？」
と遊びにくるたびにからかう友達もいます…。
